Founded in 1938, The Scarsdale Art Association encourages expression through art. Membership has grown to over 200 artists and supporters of the arts from this area. Its activities include numerous exhibits throughout the year, frequent programs at the Girl Scout House Leahey Gallery as well as the outdoor show and sale. The public is invited to most SAA activities at no charge.

Activities and Events

The SAA schedules yearly and special events, and the Calendar of Events is updated regularly here and on the SAA Newsletter. The public is invited to all SAA events without charge unless otherwise indicated. Most events are held at the LEAHEY GALLERY (click for directions) or at the Scott Room in the Scarsdale Library (click for directions)

Major Annual Activities:

Show themes are intended to spur on the artist to show his or her approach to an idea. Have fun. You need not be strictly on theme to exhibit.

ANNUAL DINNER - was well attended and well serviced. The new Officers of the Board of Directors were elected and were welcomed in by applause.  They are now listed above.

Perhaps you're new to SAA. Take the Bronx River Parkway to Exit 12, Crane Road. Leaving the Parkway, follow signs to Crane Road and proceed on Crane to Route 22, Post Road. MEMBERSHIP NEWS

Volunteers Needed - We are looking for volunteers to Chair or Co-Chair events – so please let me know if you are interested in these rewarding endeavors.

Charlotte Klein was accepted into the KMAA juried show in New Canaan. Grace Knowlton was the juror. Charlotte was also invited to to have 3 works at the Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco . She is also a participant in the Greenwich Arts Council annual event ”Art On The Avenue.”

María de Echevarría will present forty of her oil and acrylic paintings in her studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico, at the Eldorado Studio Tour. This event will take place May 15 and 16, 2010. Isabel Becker won first place in the mixed media category at the Dobbs Ferry Woman’s Club Beaux Arts Show for her fabric picture “Colorado Sunrise”.

Toby Garfinkel won second place for watercolor at the New Rochelle Art Association’s Dermot Gale Award Show.

Erna Brout was awarded first prize in pastels at the Dobbs Ferry Woman’s Club show held at the Andrus Home in Hastings. This qualifies her for entry in the Beaux Arts Finale held in Katonah in June where all first prize awardees for the past year from various member shows are judged once again.

Linda Lovinger-Siegel is exhibiting two paintings in the Katonah Museum Artists Association Invitational at the Northern Westchester Hospital, 400 East Main Street, Mount Kisco, NY.  The show runs from March 27 to September 30, 2010.  The Opening Reception is Saturday, March 27 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.  All welcome!

Phil Wallace has completed his latest book, “CHASING THE COBRA”, that is now available on Amazon. It’s a tale of adventure and romance set in the early 18th Century when America’s fledgling Navy sailed to the Mediterranean to take on the Barbary pirates. Phil also painted the cover art.

Painting At St. Bart’s

Work alongside other artists in an open studio.  Bring your own supplies and paint the subject of the day or whatever you might be working on.  Wednesdays 10 – 2 pm, St. Bartholomew’s Church, 82 Prospect, White Plains, NY, right off Soundview Avenue and the Post Rd.

Anyone interested in having high quality reproductions of their paintings can take advantage of the services of Paul Weinshenk. PLEIN AIR PAINTING

How to become a Member of SAA

All new members join the SAA as Associate Members. A jurying panel is convened twice a year for those wishing to be Artist Members. Membership is not restricted to residents of Scarsdale.

The jurying process requires the submission of three works in the same medium. Only Artist Members are eligible for the Annual Awards Show.

Membership Dues :

Associate Member: $20
Juried Artist Member: $30
Donor: $50
Patron: $75

The Leahey Gallery, named after SAA's Jeannette Leahey, an award-winning artist and benefactor, is located at the Girl Scout House on Wayside Lane, 2/10 mile west of Post Road (Route 22) in Scarsdale, New York.
